County adopts rules for house concerts
March 14, 2008
BOULDER — County commissioners on Thursday approved a change in Boulder County's Land Use Code to permit house concerts in unincorporated county zoning districts, as long as sponsors of such activities conform to certain restrictions.
House concerts are defined as gatherings of between 26 and 99 people who have assembled on the host's private property to listen to live or broadcast music — when attendees are asked to pay a fee to help cover such costs as paying the musicians.
Under the new "home events" regulation commissioners approved on a 2-1 vote, no more than 12 such house concerts could be held in a year's time at any given home, and they couldn't occur before 9 a.m. or after 11 p.m.
House concerts, which also could involve outdoors music performances, would be subject to the county's noise ordinance.
